Even if the coach of the Boleslav team had missed five players when suspended offenders Kalina, Řezníček and Táborský joined Pižanovski and Opiela, injured for a long period, it would never have crossed the minds of any of the players or viewers that the match against Brno would start with a goal conceded in the first minute. The Boleslav players didn’t recover from the shocking strike, which was reflected in their imprecise combinations. The Brno team didn’t beat Boleslav by playing pressure that was obvious at first sight, but through football performance of a higher quality and it confirmed this fact with three nice goals.
The Boleslav audience had never seen a goal conceded so quickly.
The clock showed only the 25th second when Střeštík, from the Brno team stopped hesitating about what to do with the ball at the edge of the penalty area and took advantage of the unexpectedly premium space provided him by the defenders for precision aiming at the farther post to Miller’s right – 0:1. A truly shocking opening and the Boleslav players struggled with its consequences for the whole first half.
Boleslav lost to Sparta at home in spite of the fact that they took the lead in the 31st minute through a nice goal scored by Holub. However, the rival turned the score within five minutes and confirmed the win with another two goals after the break, when the Boleslav team played without the captain, Rajnoch, who was penalized. The Boleslav team lost their home invincibility in a cool evening with the famous Prague team of Sparta and consequently also head coach Zdeněk Ščasný, who resigned from his coaching position with the FK Mladá Boleslav league team at a press conference after the match.
The Boleslav players milked a point on the playing field of currently the last team in the league standings. Miller, the goalkeeper and marksman Holub, who scored for the third time in the third consecutive league match were the stars of the team. The Bohemians players, driven by their fans and supported by Referee Jech, dominated visually for most of the first half, however, they scored only after an hour of playing when the Boleslav players levelled the pace with the rival. For that reason, they didn’t give up after the goal conceded and deservedly equalized the score of the match. The second half was disrupted twice due to a power supply failure when it was impossible to play for fifteen, then later for ten, minutes after the floodlights over the playing field went out.
The Boleslav goalkeeper saved the first shot in the second minute, when Morávek shot from an acute angle. Neither Morávek nor Miller hit the ball after a centre pass from the right-hand side and it flew across the goal area in front of the unprotected Boleslav goal in the 6th minute. One minute later, Řezníček compelled Rada to divert the ball to a corner kick; it was taken by Hodúr to Rolko’s head but the tallest man on the playing field aimed outside the goal of the Vršovice team.
The management of FK Mladá Boleslav called an extraordinary press conference due to a change in the position of head coach of the first league team Tuesday afternoon, 18 March. The existing head coach, Zdeněk Ščasný resigned and Karel Stanner took his place. Assistants Petr Čuhel and Jiří Ryba resigned along with Ščasný. Successors will be appointed soon.
The president of FK Mladá Boleslav, Josef Dufek, resigning head coach Ščasný, new head coach Karel Stanner and business, marketing and communications manager Petr Svěcený were present at this extraordinary press conference. The press centre was crowded with journalists.
Ščasný took over the Boleslav team on 3 September 2007 after coach Zajíc was dismissed. Under Ščasný the team experienced five wins, six ties and five losses with a total score of 21:22 in the 1st Gambrinus League. After two winning matches in the domestic ČMFS Cup, the team was eliminated by the second league team Třinec. Ščasný also coached the Boleslav team in six autumn matches of the UEFA Cup. He was banished by referees from the coaching bench to the stands four times (three times in the domestic league and once in the UEFA Cup) during the almost seven months of his position with the Boleslav team. Together with these transgressions, he has been interviewed by disciplinary commissions nine times in all since 1995. “I can’t manage certain critical situations if I have a feeling of injustice, so I don’t want to dishonour the Mladá Boleslav club,” Ščasný said in explaining his resignation.
The Letni Stadium in Most brought Boleslav their second defeat in their first league contact with Most; this being the first opportunity the fans and club supporters had to leave the match prematurely. Some players did not attend the specific match - Procházka (match ban for previous disqualification), Pižanowski (convalescing after knee surgery), Opiela (flesh wound) and Hodúr (fever); nonetheless, the Boleslav supporters were expecting their team to put a quick end to the match against the tail ender in the league. This not being possible, the sad fans, embittered, left the stands as early as ten minutes before the end, and headed home without even waiting to hear the final whistle.
The first half saw a large number of thorough duels, mostly in the central part of the pitch. Rajnoch and Řezníček, Boleslav’s fiercest men, had to be given medical treatment.
Most may have been predominant in field possession, yet they were not able to score. A number of times they would besiege the Boleslav goal for minutes without any luck. The same may be said about the Boleslav team, who didn’t score a point either, although they were not as active as their opponents. The higher game activity was also backed by the number of corner kicks. In the first half, the Most players played six of them, whereas Boleslav had none. This parameter reached a final value of 14:0, for Most.
Most could have scored three times in the first half.
It took four long months for the stands of the Municipal Stadium in Mladá Boleslav to hear a victorious yell. A major contribution to the joy came from Jakub Řezníček, whose two goals within a mere ten minutes defeated the Budějovice goalie, giving the shooter the two first good shots in his career. The Boleslav managed to keep and defend their victory, regardless of being one man short after minute 85, when stopper Procházka was sent off. The opposing team were aiming at Boleslav’s seventh position in the cup standings.
The home team opened the match in their own manner of this season. They led the game as early as in minute 4. Kysela sent a high pass in front of the Budějovice goal just in time for Řezníček to appear in the goal area and shoot past Kučera, scoring his first Cup goal – 1:0.
Minute 32 saw the Budějovice team score their first point, bringing an equaliser to life. Ševinský turned Vozábal’s high pass towards the corner. That played, the Boleslav were able to build some defence for a while, yet Mrkvička caught a pass in the corner of the penalty area, created a high shot to mark the further corner of Miller’s goal – 1:1.
The Boleslav football team delighted in a three-point gain after almost a six-month drought. After the win against Bohemians on September 30 last year, this happened in the František Kloz stadium in Kladno only in the last February weekend of this year. Above all, captain Jan Rajnoch was mostly responsible for the win in a fierce struggle. However, for most of the match, the performance of the Boleslav team suffered from inaccuracies resulting from both the importance of the match and a poor pitch in the same extent. Mladá Boleslav moved up in the league standings from tenth to seventh position thanks to the win in Kladno.
The Boleslav team started the match in Kladno as well as the home match against Jablonec a week ago. Hodúr took a corner kick in the 8th minute and the Kladno defenders unexpectedly provided Rajnoch with plenty of free area and time for him to score over the head with his back facing the goal– 0:1.
Even though the Boleslav players took the lead in the sixth minute, they could not get rid of their nervousness and inaccuracies for the whole first half. They improved their performance after the break, however, they did not turn their increased activity into any other goal. On the contrary, they conceded an equalizing goal in the 65th minute and did not manage to respond to it even though they had several scoring chances for a winning goal. And so they did not break a black series of non-winning home matches that has continued since the end of last September and they did not improve their position in the league standings with only one point.
The Jablonec players started the match more actively but they conceded a goal already in the 6th minute. Jablonec defender Homola knocked down Kalina who was penetrating courageously the penalty area and referee Příhoda ordered a penalty kick without hesitation. Rajnoch prepared the ball on the penalty kick spot and reliably stretched the net behind the back of Špit, who jumped towards the right-hand post in vain – 1:0. The Mladá Boleslav skipper scored for the sixth time in this league season. The players of FK Mladá Boleslav left for a one-week fitness training camp in Nymburk in the morning on Monday, January 7 without their skipper, Marek Matějovský. He said good-bye to them and left from Prague Ruzyně airport for London in the afternoon on the same day as he changed to the English club Reading FC, which had been monitoring the Boleslav playmaker for approximately a year. The management of the Boleslav club officially said good-bye to Matějovský at Monday’s press conference organized in a VIP lounge in Ruzyně airport.
“I am very satisfied with what has come off,“ said Matějovský about his new contract, which he takes as a huge challenge. He has passed the corresponding medical and fitness tests successfully in Reading in recent days. He openly expressed his thanks to the president of FK Mladá Boleslav, Josef Dufek, and to the football agents Zíka and Kolář from Sport Invest, who cooperated in the preparation of the three and a half year-long contract for Matějovský at the press conference.
”We will not publish the precise sum but the agreed upon sum is adequate to the quality of the best player of the Gambrinus League and a Czech international player,“ said Josef Dufek, who presented Matějovský with lifelong tickets for two persons to football matches in Mladá Boleslav. “Marek started to play football in Mladá Boleslav and certainly is a big example for all young football players from Mladá Boleslav and the whole Pojizeří region."
Qualifying hopes for Boleslav became spoiled by a goal in the last minute of the first half when Mutu converted a strictly ordered penalty kick. Rajnoch managed to equalize after the break, however, the Fiorentina striker Vieri beat Pižanowski shortly after that. The Boleslav lost the first half through their passive performance; they were more courageous in the second half but this was not enough for win over the fifth team of the top Italian competition. Like a year ago, they obtained three points in a group of the UEFA Cup, this time for one win whereas for three ties in last year.
The Boleslav players started very withdrawn and Fiorentina pushed on the goal of Pižanowski easily. The Boleslav goalkeeper only rebounded a sharp centre pass from a side in the 11th minute, Pazzini did not manage to orientate himself and Kopic cleared the ball away from the penalty area. The Boleslav team answered with an attack that resulted in a corner kick. Kalina aimed his centre pass from the left-hand wing in front of the goal after unsuccessful shot by Hrdlička but the defenders of Fiorentina were ready. The Portuguese referee judged a duel between Procházka and Pazzini as a penalty foul three minutes before the end of the first half and the experienced Mutu aimed his penalty shot in the opposite side than Pižanowski jumped – 1:0. Before the players left the pitch for the half break, the ball from a free kick just cleared the crossbar of the Lupatelli’s goal.
