Missed opportunities ends in goalless draw

Slavia was the first team to threaten the goal through Necid. Miller blocked his first shot before Procházka blocked his rebounded effort. It did not take long for the Boleslav players to test their rivals defence. Mendy shot sharply in the 13^th minute but Vaniak was quick to get down and save it at his post. Jarolím then shot wide at the opposite end.

Mendy crossed for Papadopulos who was directly in front of goal but his header just cleared the crossbar in the 18^th minute.

In the 21^st minute Šmicer made a run into the Boleslav penalty area after an unsuccessful clearance by Kalina, but his shot was also off target.

A long kick-in by Miller and a mistake by Slavia’s Brabec saw Papadopulos race into the penalty area uncontested in the 42^nd minute, however his effort somehow managed to hit the goalkeeper Vaniak in the head when it appeared easier to score.

Three minutes after the break and a Papadopulos’ header was off target after good work and a cross from Kalina.

A misunderstanding between Šmicer and Necid saw a good chance disappear on the edge of the Boleslav penalty area before the swift counter-attack started by Papadopulos saw Poláček fire over.

Sylvestre shot sharply in the 56^th minute and the touch from Brabec drew a brilliant fingertip save by the wizard Vaniak at his right-hand upright. Rajnoch tried his luck from 25 metres two minutes later but missed wide.

A good save from Miller saw the rebound fall to Belaid directly in front of goal but his shot was cleared by Kalina in the 75^th minute. Pecka just failed to make contact with a centred pass from Mendy and it flew across Vaniak’s goal ten minutes from time. A cross from Belaid saw Necid’s angled header roll agonisingly across the Boleslav goal and just clear the post in the 84^th minute. A minute later and Řezníček earned a corner at the opposite end as his deflected strike from a Kysela through ball was turned away but Boleslav again failed to capitalise.

Both sides continued to attack until the end, clearly not content with sitting back for a draw, but the closing stages and the spectators saw no goals.
