The national head coach Brückner called Kulič and Matějovský for the friendly against Belgium

30. 01. 2007 |

Two players of FK Mladá Boleslav - Marek Kulič (forward) and Marek Matějovský (midfielder) appear among eighteen members of the nomination for the friendly match between the Czech Republic and Belgium to be played in Brussels on Wednesday, 7 February. Unlike Kulič who has played three caps and even scored once for the national side, Matějovský is still waiting for his first performance in the national team, even though he has been called once before.

The national coach Karel Brückner complimented Marek Matějovský during the nomination press conference in Prague. "He is a universal player who may have not played a single minute for the national side yet, however, he shows qualities I could see in videos shot from the autumn European cup matches he played," says Brückner. "The nomination is a great honour for me," said Matějovský and did not want to comment Brückner's compliments and the opinion that his performance during autumn European cup matches was the reason he would be called to the Czech national side. "I try to play my best football in every match," he said.
During his first autumn nomination, finally Matějovský did not get to the field. However, the repeated invitation gives a signal Brückner not only keeps Matějovský in his mind but also wants to give him a chance. It could come true against Belgium. "Since it is a friendly match, my chances to play increase comparing to qualification," hopes Matějovský.
A look at the complete Brückner's nomination confirms Boleslav players Kulič and Matějovský have been invited to the elite squad of a European format: goalkeepers Jaromír Blažek (Sparta Praha) and Petr Čech (Chelsea), defenders Zdeněk Grygera (Ajax), Marek Jankulovski (AC Milan), Martin Jiránek (Spartak Moscow), Radoslav Kováč (Spartak Moscow), David Rozehnal (Paris SG) and Tomáš Ujfaluši (Fiorentina), midfielders Tomáš Galásek (Nurnberg), Marek Matějovský (Mladá Boleslav), Jaroslav Plašil (Monaco), Jan Polák (Nurnberg), Tomáš Rosický (Arsenal) and Libor Sionko (Glasgow), forwards Milan Baroš (Lyon), Jan Koller (Monaco), Marek Kulič (Mladá Boleslav) and David Lafata (Jablonec).
